When something's urgent
Put "EQScore — urgent" in the subject. Crashes and data-loss reports get priority.
2. Device requirements
- ✓ iPhone with Apple Intelligence support — iPhone 15 Pro / Pro Max or any iPhone 16/17 series.
- ✓ iOS 26 or later.
- ✓ Apple Intelligence enabled (Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri).
- ✓ Apple Watch (optional) — Series 6 or later running watchOS 11+.
- ✓ Roughly 200 MB free storage on iPhone, plus the ~7 GB Apple Intelligence model download (one-time, system-wide).
3. Apple Intelligence setup
EQScore's scoring and EQ Coach both rely on Apple's on-device Foundation Models. To enable:
- Open Settings on iPhone.
- Tap Apple Intelligence & Siri.
- Toggle Apple Intelligence on. Accept the terms.
- Wait for the model to finish downloading — about 7 GB, typically 10 to 30 minutes on Wi-Fi. Keep iPhone plugged in and not in Low Power Mode.
- When it's done, force-quit EQScore and reopen it. The Home tab will show "On-device LLM ready" in green.
If the toggle is greyed out, set the iPhone language and Siri language to a supported language (e.g., English) and try again.
4. Apple Watch & heart rate
Sessions use live heart rate from your Apple Watch. To enable:
- Open the Watch app on iPhone.
- Scroll to AVAILABLE APPS and tap INSTALL next to EQScore.
- On the Watch, press the Digital Crown, find EQScore, open it, and tap Allow when HealthKit asks for access.
- Back on iPhone, open EQScore and start a Session. The Watch automatically begins a workout to stream heart rate continuously.
Why a workout? When the Watch is idle, it samples heart rate roughly every five minutes — too slow for live coaching. Workouts unlock continuous sampling. EQScore's workout is invisible and ends automatically when you end the session.
5. Mirror Mode quick start
Mirror Mode is for solo rehearsal — your front camera reads facial cues alongside voice and heart rate.
- Open the Mirror tab.
- Tap Start Practice. iOS will ask for camera permission the first time — tap Allow.
- Rehearse out loud. Live HUD shows gaze, smile, brow, and BPM. Nothing is recorded as video.
- Tap Stop & Analyze. EQScore scores your face + voice + heart rate as one multimodal signal.
6. EQ Coach
The Coach tab is a private chatbot grounded in your real session history. It's powered by Apple's on-device Foundation Models — the conversation never leaves your phone. Try prompts like:
- "What did I do well in my latest session?"
- "Where should I focus this week?"
- "Help me prepare for a tough conversation."
- "Give me a quick EQ practice for today."
7. Privacy
The short version: EQScore makes zero network calls. Everything runs on your device. For the full picture, see the privacy policy.
8. Troubleshooting
"Couldn't analyze — transcript was empty"
- Check Settings → Privacy & Security → Speech Recognition — EQScore must be ON.
- Speak close to the iPhone for at least 20–30 seconds, in full sentences.
- In a noisy room, the mic may filter out distant voices — get closer.
"Couldn't analyze — Session activation failed"
- This almost always means another app is already using the microphone. iOS lets only one app capture audio at a time, so EQScore can't start a session while you're on a phone or FaceTime call, a VoIP call (WhatsApp, Zoom, Teams, etc.), or while Voice Memos, the camera, or screen recording is capturing audio.
- End or leave the call (or stop the other recording), then tap Start Session again.
- If it still fails right after a call ends, force-quit EQScore (swipe up) and reopen so iOS releases the microphone.
- Note: EQScore analyzes your own conversation practice on device — it does not record phone calls (iOS doesn't allow apps to capture call audio).
"EQScore not open on Watch"
- Install the EQScore companion app on the Watch (see section 4).
- Open EQScore on the Watch at least once and grant HealthKit access.
- Keep the Watch on your wrist or on the charger during the session.
Mirror Mode camera preview is black
- Check Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera — EQScore must be ON.
- Force-quit EQScore (swipe up) and reopen. iOS sometimes holds the camera if another app used it.
EQ Coach is stuck on "thinking…"
- Apple Intelligence may still be downloading the on-device model — see section 3.
- If it's downloaded, force-quit EQScore and reopen.
